As the Pork Value Chain Research Officer you will work as part of the team across two main CGIAR (Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research) research programs, ‘Livestock and Fish’ and ‘Agriculture for Improved Nutrition and Health’, in the International Livestock Research Institute’s (ILRI). You will be primarily based in Vietnam, but will be required to go on field trips in rural areas of Vietnam and one field trip to Uganda.
As one of the 15 CGIAR centers working across the globe on agriculture research and development, ILRI envisions a world where all people have access to enough food and livelihood options to fulfil their potential.
You will work to improve staff understanding of constraints, opportunities and potential incentives to mitigate public health risks along the pork value chain. Use you expertise to improve staff capacvity to deliver services and information to smallholder pig farmers for improved food safety. You will work with staff to improve pig production and optimise integrated disease control. Finally, you will improve risk communication related to food safety.
These objectives will contribute to improved productivity, research and understanding of food safety hazards in pork value chains, leading to better management of human and animal health risks from smallholder pig production.
