|Proposed Start Date||August 2017|
|Assignment Location||Thimphu, Bhutan|
Bhutan to date does not have a Haematology presence in the country. Here is your chance to change this situation and bring about a much needed change in Bhutan’s health sector.
Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH) is Bhutan’s apex institution delivering health care services in Bhutan. Established in 1972 as a General Hospital, it was extended in 1994 with the introduction of new service lines, and named the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital, in honour of the third Druk Gyalpo, His late Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.
The Haematology Advisor will be placed under the Department of Medicine, of the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH). Bhutan is working on growing its own haematologists, but in the meantime the services of a volunteer are very much in demand to train local doctors in haematology. The need for a clinical interface was identified by the previous volunteers so the focus of your assignment will include a greater involvement with the Department of Medicine (approximately 80% spent with the Department of Medicine and about 20% with the Department of Laboratory Medicine). This is a 12 month assignment, however JDWNRH is happy to consider a reduced duration for the right candidate.
This assignment will help to reduce the gap in the demand for haematology services in Bhutan while it strives to develop its own haematology professionals (doctors). It will also enhance the knowledge of haematology amongst the residents undertaking the Resident Program, which will result in better haematological treatment of patients at the hospital.
