The Paediatric Nurse Educator will work within the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS), in the Paediatric Ward at the Tungaru Central Hospital (TCH), to build staff capacity in patient case management and paediatric resuscitation.
The Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) is responsible for overseeing the provision of all health care services in Kiribati. The MHMS faces great challenges inherent to providing quality health care services, namely financial constraints, the country’s isolated geographic setting and communication difficulties.
The volunteer will first review existing case management skills and practices and identify training needs. The volunteer will then provide training on areas identified and how to assess and treat frequent presentations of paediatric conditions, such as respiratory diseases, dengue fever and diarrhoea. The volunteer will assess staff ability to respond to paediatric life support and introduce ongoing assessments. You will be involved in developing and implementing assessment materials on paediatric life support and will provide senior nurses with training and mentoring in paediatric life support. The volunteer will also develop and support the implementation of emergency procedures.
These objectives contribute to improving paediatric nursing care practice in the scope of paediatric management strategies, both daily and in times of disaster, to ultimately increase survival rates of paediatric patients.
