Help turn current practice into best practice! The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is looking out for a Pharmaceutical Development Officer.
The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is responsible for providing the health service for the Republic of Kiribati. This comprises of various forms from acute hospital services through to small remote island clinics. Clinical Pharmacy is a new area in Pharmaceutical in many Pacific Island countries including Kiribati. This is crucial to improve patient outcomes, support the rational use of medicines, clinical care and maintenance of a reliable supply of medicines.
Your role will involve enhancing pharmacy staff’s skills and knowledge in rational use of medicines, clinical care and maintenance of a reliable supply of medicines by first evaluating the current skill levels of staff in the above areas. Together with staff, you will develop a plan for training modules that will be implemented to cover issues identified. The results of medicines use and evaluation studies will identify specific targets to be addressed. You will work with the National Medicines and Therapeutics Committee (NMTC) to enhance knowledge and use of the Standard Treatment Guidelines (STGs) which is crucial for the rational use of medicine (RUM) in health facilities. RUM will be achieved by working with staff to provide training across the HO to ensure good understanding of role of the STGs and their importance. Together with the chief pharmacist and the NMTC you will facilitate the updating of STGs and developing new STGs where required.
This assignment will support the Ministry’s strategic plan 2016-19 focussed on improving health service delivery through availability of essential medicines and supplies.
