|Proposed Start Date||August 2017|
|Assignment Location||Suva , Fiji|
Be the Communications Officer for The Pacific Community (SPC) whose vision is for a region of peace, harmony, security, social inclusion and prosperity, so that all Pacific people can lead free, healthy and productive lives.
The Division of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Marine Ecosystems (FAME) in SPC has a skills gap in relation to communications, as identified by a number of evaluations and reviews. Identified needs have included furthering the communications reach and visibility of the work of the Division and funders, engagement with social media, communicating fisheries information to a diverse range of audiences, and closer collaboration with SPC corporate communications team.
This assignment is imperative given the significant impact TC Winston has had on coastal fisheries and aquaculture in Fiji, as well as the current rehabilitation work FAME is contributing to in Vanuatu following TC Pam in March 2015. As the Communications Advisor you will contribute to the communications capacity of local staff, fisheries sector, Government Ministries, Non-Government Organisations, and local networks. You will work closely with FAME staff based in Suva. The volunteer will also make reference to the New Song Strategy, as part of their work across FAME programs and activities relating to coastal fisheries. The New Song strategy is a regional strategy on the pathways to change around coastal fisheries management.
This assignment will improve access to fisheries information, key strategies, and understanding of fisheries interventions and contribute to fisheries and aquaculture in terms of food security and economic development.
