The Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) program mobilises volunteers to 14 countries across Asia and the Pacific. The most important factor when applying to the program is ensuring that you have skills and experience to complete the assignment in which you are applying for. However, understanding the country in which you are applying for an assignment in is an important part of the application process.
The AVID program supports volunteers in countries that do not permit alcohol consumption. Others may have restricted freedoms, some have legislation against homosexuality and some have weather extremes. Before applying for a role it is important to understand the cultural context, environment and legislation of the Host Country you are applying for so that you can make an informed decision as to whether you would be comfortable living in that country for the duration of your assignment.
